24-year-old home hero Daniel Ricciardo earned a stunning second place finish at the Australian Grand Prix. Starting on the front grid, Ricciardo and Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg managed to jump Lewis Hamilton on the start and maintain their position for the race despite immense pressure from McLaren rookie Kevin Magnussen in the closing stages of the race.

However, bad news emerged from Red Bull just hours after their superb podium finish at the inaugural race of the 2014 Formula 1 season. Following a technical investigation on the fuel flow of Ricciardo's Red Bull RB10. According to the rules of the FIA, fuel use must be carefully regulated to 100kg/h during the race. Daniel Ricciardo is disqualified from the race.

The stewards determined that Daniel Ricciardo has exceeded that fuel limit. Officially, the FIA announced that Infiniti Red Bull Racing has breached Article 3.2 of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations and Article 5.1.4 of the FIA Formula One Technical Regulations.

If it weren't for the disappointing ruling, Daniel Ricciardo could have been the first Australian Formula 1 driver to stand at the podium of his home grand prix. Just like that, Ricciardo may have to try again next year.

"I feel very sorry for Daniel, as there isn't anything better than a good race result at your home GP," said Red Bull teammate Sebastian Vettel, who retired from the race due to power issues.

Obviously, Red Bull Racing isn't happy with Daniel Ricciardo's disqualification at all and immediately issued an appeal after learning the disqualification:

"Following the decision of the FIA that Infiniti Red Bull Racing is in breach of Article 3.2 of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations and Article 5.1.4 of the FIA Formula One Technical Regulations with Car 3, the Team has notified the FIA of its intention to appeal with immediate effect.

"Inconsistencies with the FIA fuel flow meter have been prevalent all weekend up and down the pit lane. The Team and Renault are confident the fuel supplied to the engine is in full compliance with the regulations."
