A woman from Washington state was found dead in a Cancun hotel on Friday, Nov. 26, during a Thanksgiving vacation with her boyfriend, who has been arrested for her murder by Mexican authorities.

Twenty-six-year-old Sativa Transue was found unconscious on Saturday by a worker of the hotel that she and her boyfriend, 31-year-old Taylor Allen, were staying at. The employee immediately called in the police, who promptly arrested Allen for the victim's murder, according to the Independent.

Authorities in Mexico, who described Transue as being “beaten to a bloody pulp,” are investigating the case as a possible domestic violence homicide case.

Transue’s family has been left shocked by her death, although they have gone on record to say that they believe that Allen was a controlling and abusive boyfriend. Mykayla Bolieu, Transue’s sister, said that Allen persuaded Transue to go to Cancun for Thanksgiving instead of her family’s house in Spokane, the New York Post reported.

“Her boyfriend was very controlling and he said, ‘No, I don’t want to go home. Let’s go to Mexico,’” she said.

The family received texts from Transue’s friends saying that she needed stitches, and before long, the U.S. Consulate in Mexico called the family and confirmed the death of Transue in Cancun.

“Last night she texted her friends, who are amazing by the way. She was in a fight with her boyfriend and they said she had to have stitches,” Bolieu said. “My mom did get a call from the U.S. Consulate in Mexico at about 9 a.m. Saturday to say unfortunately Sativa had been found dead in her hotel room.”

Due to COVID-19, as well as the fact that Transue died in another country, information about her death has trickled by slowly, and Bolieu said that she and her family are having a hard time ascertaining what really happened as well as if Allen will be charged for her murder.

“At this point, they weren’t sure what happened, but since then her death has been ruled as a homicide. We won’t have an official cause of death until a family member gets down there to facilitate on our behalf,” Bolieu explained.

Allen is believed to be currently detained in a prison in Mexico.
