A woman who didn't want to babysit her 18-month-old grandson reportedly killed the boy by bashing him against a wall and slamming him to the floor in Ahmedabad, India.

The accused, identified as Chandrika alias Sharmi Raval, has been arrested for murder and assault after she allegedly killed her own 18-month-old grandson Shailesh by slamming him against a wall because she didn't want to babysit him anymore, the Times Of India reported.

On Jan. 24, Chandrika informed her son Mukesh Thakore that Shailesh had fallen ill and that she had to rush him to the hospital. The toddler victim's father, Thakore. immediately proceeded to the hospital after hearing the unfortunate news. Upon his arrival at the facility, however, the hospital staff told him that his son had died and that his body has been transferred for the conduct of an autopsy.

Later that day, Thakore noticed that his eldest son, 4-year-old Rutvik, had injuries on his face consistent with someone who had been beaten. The father subsequently questioned his sister Rekha. She told him that their mother had informed her that both the kids were playing outside at night and also that she spotted something leaking from Shailesh’s mouth at around 1 a.m before he died.

Sometime later, the doctors who conducted the child's autopsy informed Thakore that his son had died after being hit by a blunt instrument in the head. Three days after cremating Shailesh, the concerned father asked his neighbors about what may have happened on the night of Jan. 23.

“They told me that they had heard both the kids crying. They also said that they could hear sounds as if the two were being beaten up," he told the officers.

When Thakore asked Rutvik what happened, he told him that their grandmother had thrashed both of them and that she had smashed Shailesh against a wall before hurling him towards the floor, causing the grievous injuries that led to the boy's sudden death.

Thakore reportedly left the kids with the accused because he had to go to Rajasthan for some work. Thakore's wife Kodavari, had left him and was staying with her parents in Vageshwari.

Based on a police complaint lodged by Thakore, the grandmother was arrested on Tuesday, Feb. 1, under Section 302 (murder) and Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

"We were told that the toddler had died due to trauma suffered in a fall. However, the injuries on the elder brother made us suspicious. Then, he revealed what had actually transpired which led us to arrest his grandmother,” Paresh Jani, Police Sub Inspector (PSI) investigating the case, said.
