The woman who allegedly spat on the Trump administration's former interim U.S. Attorney Ed Martin on live television and confessed on social media faces years in federal prison.
On May 8, Emily Sommer interrupted a Newsmax live interview with Martin while walking her dog outside the Trump International Hotel in Washington.
"Who the f*** are you? You are Ed Martin," the 32-year-old said before spitting on Martin. "You are a disgusting man," she added as she walked away, according to a clip shared on X by journalist Rob Schmitt.
This afternoon acting DC US Atty Ed Martin was spit on by a psychotic lib during our interview. Hope she’s ready for a nice stretch in jail. pic.twitter.com/2Y5hj41V0l

Although the incident occurred shortly after President Donald Trump withdrew his nomination for Martin to lead as the U.S. attorney for D.C., a top department post, the conservative politician was still under temporary federal protection, the Department of Justice's criminal complaint, filed Wednesday, stated.
The complaint also referenced an X post Sommer allegedly wrote hours after the incident as proof that she admitted to the act.
"ED, that was me that spit in your face today in front of your not USDC for D.C. Courthouse, that absolutely definitely spit in your face on camera. Hi, hello. A pleasure to hawk a dehydrated, pithy white foam spit into your face. I only apologize that this city left me so dehydrated and unable to get water that I couldn't produce more to stain and drip down your face," @EmilyGabriellaS, Sommer's suspected X account, shared.
The DOJ charged Sommer with assaulting, resisting or impeding certain U.S. officers and employees, a federal offense that carries a maximum sentence of eight years if convicted.
