Mexico is pretty crazy about soccer and World Cup fever is widespread - even affecting politics. The Commission for Energy Legislation Reform this afternoon approved a new change to work schedule: the scheduled meeting for tomorrow afternoon was changed to be after the match between the Mexican national team and Cameroon in the World Cup in Brazil. Energy reforms have become a crucial talking point in Mexico this year - but not as big as the World Cup it seems.

A similar thing occurred today - senators from both commissions extended the recess to watch the opening match of the World Cup between Brazil and Croatia. When initiating the debate on how those Mexican workers in the agricultural sector could possibly be harmed because their land has oil resources, and how those farmers would be rewarded would, the president of the Energy Committee, Senator David Penchyna, called a recess for his peers of the legislative body, as well as the First legislative Study Commission until 17:30.

After an recess of of almost two hours, the meeting resumed with debate on the legislative agreement on the process to follow drafting the reform. Penchyna Grub said he expected to soon put the agreement to a vote that that will govern the discussion of opinions which are expected to last until June 23. Meetings have been scheduled for each business day of the week and if necessary schedules have been set for Saturday and Sunday from 11AM to 2PM and 5 PM and 8 PM.
