Demi Lovato has been confirmed to not be returning to Season 4 of "The X-Factor" on FOX. Simon Cowell made the news official while talking to the press after the musical competition finished airing in the East coast, according to Deadline. Earlier in the day People broke the news that Lovato would be leaving the reality show to focus on her music career, which she had to put on hold to meet the grueling "Factor" schedule. The singer will embark on February on her first arena tour with other "X-Factor" alums like Little Mix, Cher Lloyd and Fifth Harmony.

Back in November she shared with People what her plans would be after "The X-Factor." "I will take the month of January completely off!" she told the magazine. "I want to vacation! I want to watch crime shows on my DVR on my couch ... I need to do some exercising and I don't really have time to do it. I love horseback riding and never get to do that stuff, but January is my time to do all of that." Demi joined the FOX show as a judge during Season 2 where she shared the panel with Cowell, LA Reid and Britney Spears. During that first season she mentored the Young Adults category and quickly became a breakout on the judging table thanks to her bickering with Cowell, casting a shadow over Spears who generally kept quiet. The future of "X-Factor" is uncertain as ratings have declined season to season and over the course of this latest third installment. Talks of a Season 4 renewal have been thrown out there, but no decision has been made by the network. Cowell has hinted that the show might be back for a fourth-round during a conference call with press and said that he might come back but in a different capacity. He said that he is in "the middle of a presentation of what we think the show should look like and what the fans would like" and a possibility of only airing the show once a week in contrast to two-night which have the contestant perform on one night and the results the following night. The season 3 finale of "The X-Factor" airs tonight (Thursday, 19 December) starting at 8pm ET/PT on FOX.
