The 12 Hours of Sebring is one of the oldest, most prestigious, and arguably the most challenging road race in the continental United States. For 2013, the 12 hour endurance race is causing more tension than ever as it will be the last year of racing in its current from before the American Le Mans series merges with Grand-Am.

Earlier Friday, racers completed class qualifications. Strong pace from the P1 Audi R18 e-tron Quattro allowed the German constructor to lock out the front two spots on the grid. This historic qualification marks the very first time a hybrid racing car takes pole.

The leading car will be Marcel Fassler, Benoit Treluyer, and Olivier Jarvis, which set an incredible track record of 1:43.886 under the skilled hands of Fassler. What's more, the qualifying time was hair-splittingly close -- four-time winner at Sebring Alan McNish qualified only 0.009 seconds behind!

Former Formula 1 driver Nick Heidfeld will line his Lola B12/60 in third.

In the P2 category, Ryan Briscoe and his HPD ARX-03b takes pole followed by his teammate Ryan Hunter-Reay in the sister car.

The fan-favorite DeltaWing of the experimental class finishes qualifying at 15th overall.

In the GT class, Gimmi Bruni keeps his Ferrari 458 Italia ahead of the pack. Bruni is closely followed by the Corvette C6.R driven by Olly Gavin and Stefan Mucke in the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. A disappointing weekend for SRT, the Vipers will start tomorrow's race from sixth and tenth in class, respectively.
