Just a couple days ago, Pikes Peak International Hill Climb race officials announced that the historical event has been rescheduled for August 12th in order to buy time for firefighters contain the Colorado wildfire before racing goes underway. However, the date was still considered tentative and may be rescheduled as further threats of safety become an issue.

Lighting strikes as rain clouds approach the Waldo Canyon fire

Now, the Waldo Canyon, Colorado region is expected to receive as much as 3 inches of precipitation over the weekend. Just as park officials and firefighters are working on containing the blaze, a new risk of mudslides and flash flooding provide the team with a new challenge.

According to the Denver Post,the rain began to fall by 4 p.m. yesterday and quickly turned heavy many teams of volunteers spent endless of hours packing thousands of sand bags in an attempt to contain flash floods in the High Park burn area as well as Falls Gulch in Poudre Canyon.

Numerous mudslides have already been reported by the Colorado Department of Transportation. Rist Canyon Road was closed for flash flooding and debris and roads including Magnolia Road are significantly damages by the natural disaster.

Capturing the bravery of the men and women that responded to the wildfire, Jalopnik shared incredible footage of the Air National Guard crew laying down blankets of chemical fire retardant over one of Colorado's wildfires via an enormous C-130 Hercules tanker craft.
