The 2011 FA Cup champions are back in the final.
Following a 2-1 defeat of defending champion Chelsea on Sunday, Manchester City advanced to the 2012-2013 FA Cup championship, their second trip to the finals in three seasons.
Goals from Samir Nasri and Sergio Aguero provided City with a lead they'd never relinquish. Demba Ba notched the only goal of the match for Chelsea, who exits a tournament they've won 7 times in club history.
"We never doubted the fact that we wanted to win trophies," City captain Vincent Kompany noted to ITV after the victory. "This was an important game and it will be an even more important game in the final against Wigan."
Leading 2-1 entering stoppage time, City's defense had continuously fought off multiple offensive charges from Chelsea. With time winding down, City dodged the final bullet when a shot by Chelsea's Eden Hazard went high and wide, allowing Manchester to begin their celebration.
The loss in the semifinals for Chelsea means they will not have a chance to continue a dominant run in FA Cup play, a run that includes 4 titles in 6 seasons.
Kompany and Manchester City have won 4 of their last 5 matches and they'll meet a Wigan Athletic Club that hasn't lost in their last 8 contests.
Having won the FA Cup title in 2010-2011 by defeating Stoke City 1-0, Manchester City is poised to win what would be the sixth title in club history.
The 2013 title match between Manchester City and Wigan Athletic will take place on Saturday, May 11 at London's Wembley Stadium.
