That's enough news about CAFE standards, hybrid drivetrains, and efficient small displacement engines -- Hennessey throws eco-consciousness into the wind and has revealed its new 2013 Hennessey VR1200 Twin Turbo Coupe.
This is essentially Hennessey's version of a hybrid: a Cadillac CTS-V on the outside, and essentially a de-tuned Venom GT on the inside. The 2013 VR1200 Twin Turbo Coupe recklessly throws away the CTS-V's stock block and blower and shoehorns a raw twin-turbocharged 7.0 liter powerplant in its place. Just like in the Venom GT, the 7.0 liter V8 in the VR1200 is finished with forged aluminum pistons, connecting rods, forged crankshaft, all to handle the devastating 1,226-hp and 1,109 lb.-ft. of torque power figure at the flywheel. Fitted with an adjustable boost control unit, a dial on the console can change the power output from 1,226-hp to 1,000-hp or just 800-hp if a little more "subtlety" is necessary at any given moment.
When the boost control dial is cranked to its maximum, the Hennessey VR1200 Twin Turbo's fat set of Michelin Pilot super sport tires puts all the power to the pavement as the Hennessey launches itself from 0-to-60 mph in less than three seconds, rockets past a quarter mile in just 10.2 seconds, and reaches the maximum velocity of 242 mph.
15.1-inch carbon ceramic Brembo brakes can stop as quickly as the V1200 launches and an extensive carbon fiber widebody kit and aggressive "powerdome" hood makes the VR1200 look brutally quick even when its standing still.
A very special Hennessey for only the most maniacal of power addicts, the American tuning house will charge $295,000 to transform any CTS-V (coupe, sedan, or wagon) into a full-on VR1200. Act quickly, because only 12 examples will be built.
