A young mom in Georgia faces two counts each of felony murder, malice murder and aggravated assaults after she fatally stabbed her children aged 5 and 6, at their residence east of Gainesville on Friday. Berenice Jaramillo-Hernandez, 26, inflicted herself with serious injuries soon after. There has been no information regarding the mother’s mental health, financial background, or criminal history.

Deputies from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office drove to Hernandez’s residence after being alerted about a woman who cut herself on Friday afternoon. Upon arrival, they found the bodies of the children. Hernandez lay beside her dead children, bleeding from the injuries that she inflicted upon herself after the slayings of her kids. “Jaramillo-Hernandez killed the children with a knife and then turned the knife on herself, resulting in serious injuries,” said the sheriff's office.

The mother was rushed to a medical center nearby where she’s currently being treated for her injuries. The sheriff’s office stated that formal charges await her upon her complete recovery.

Further probe is underway, not much has been disclosed pertaining to the incident. “There is no danger to the community as a result of the incident,” said the sheriff's office on Friday. The sheriff’s office maintained that the incident was isolated and the team wasn’t on the lookout for more suspects. Hernandez’s family has been informed about the charges that await her.
