A 3-year-old Michigan girl was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries after she was shot in the arm.

The incident happened early morning on Saturday, August 7, in the 800 block of Monroe in Benton Harbor.

Berrien County Deputies responded to the home after receiving alerts of a shooting. Upon arrival, the responding officers found the toddler profusely bleeding from a gunshot wound to the arm.

When the deputies administered first aid and covered the little girl's arm with a tourniquet to control the bleeding, the toddler reportedly told deputies "I don’t want to die".

Emergency services then transported the child to Lakeland Hospital St. Joseph. The child was reported to be recovering in the hospital, however, no updates were available about her current condition.

The child has not been publicly identified by the authorities.

Berrien County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit was called in to assist Benton Harbor Public Safety to investigate the crime scene.

Crime Scene Investigators found several bullet holes that had struck the house. According to the investigators, the little girl was lying in bed when the bullet struck her.

The investigators have not identified any suspects and no arrests have been registered yet.

In a similar but unrelated incident, a 4-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his 2-year-old brother on August 1, after they were reportedly left unsupervised in a bedroom where their father kept his loaded gun.

The father, 26-year-old Giovanni Smith had left his two children in his bedroom to watch cartoons on the television while he was in another room talking on the phone.

A while later, the father heard a "pop" sound and rushed back to the bedroom to find his younger son bleeding and his older son holding the gun and crying.

First responders rushed to the house in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and found the child lying unresponsive with a gunshot injury to the chest. The toddler was pronounced dead at the scene,

Smith faces a felony count of neglecting a child resulting in death.
