Earlier today, we shared a documentary that explores the greatest hero car of all time: the Batmobile. So, it's only fair that we mention one of the greatest villain cars too.
Prohibition-era crime syndicate Al Capone's reputation needs no introduction and through the expanse of his "career," Capone has made more than his share of tommy-gun wielding enemies. Naturally, Al Capone needed a ride fit for a king of the underworld.
This 1928 Cadillac V-8 Town Sedan is one of the earliest surviving bulletproof vehicles. Capone had it fitted with glass an inch thick as well as nearly 3,000 lbs. (1,360 kg) of armor made from steel plates and lead. Other gangster features fitted to the custom Cadillac include a drop-release rear window to shoot down your pursuers. A larger cutout is also available when the number of pursuers require a more effective weapon, say a large barrel machine gun.
No doubt, when it comes to armored vehicles, nothing less powerful than a V8 engine would suffice and, as stated in its name, the Cadillac has just that. Featuring a 341 cubic-inch L-Head V8 engine, the 1928 V-8 Town Sedan makes a stampeding 90 hp. Okay, so it's not exactly a getaway vehicle unless you're okay with getting away slowly.
A very special vehicle of an infamous icon of American history, this very Cadillac can be yours. RM Auctions announced that the Cadillac will roll across the block in Monterey, California next month. RM experts predict that the Cadillac will collect anywhere between $300,000 and $500,000.
