The State Department also issued a travel warning to American Citizens travelling abroad. The threat made by Al Qaeda seems to suggest that there could be an attack in regions where Americans gather in August. This attack could take place in one key location or in various locations across the world.

A top Republican with the Senate Intelligence Committee, Senator Saxby Chambliss spoke with NBC's Meet the Press about what he calls "the most serious threat that I've seen in the last several years."

The Senator said the intelligence that has been gathered, which he referred to as "chatter" is similar to what the intelligence community was experiencing pre-9/11. Chambliss said the "chatter" was being electronically monitored using the same programs Edward Snowden revealed to the media.

The "chatter" Chambliss said was "very reminiscent of what we saw pre-9/11." Chambliss also stated if it were not for the programs Snowden unveiled to the world the US "wouldn't be able to listen in on the bad guys."

According to NBC News the source of the threat is coming from Yemen but no spokesperson for the State Department will confirm that with the news organization. NBC also says Yemen is home to one of the most dangerous terror network. Al Qaeda is responsible for numerous terror attacks including the 2009-failed attempt to bomb an airplane over Detroit.

France, Great Britain and Germany have followed suite and closed their embassies located in Yemen. Here at home police departments in New York City and the District of Columbia have added more officers to counter terrorism unites and reminded employees to be on their guard.
