Alberto Del Rio, former WWE wrestler claims to have been attacked outside an airport restaurant over the weekend, by a man with a knife. The Mexican star then shared a graphic image of his wounds via social media.

According to USA Today, Del Rio claims that the incident occurred outside of an airport restaurant. He said that he suffered wounds to his arms and head in an effort to defend himself from the assailant.

Del Rio, a.k.a Jose Alberto Rodriguez, said he received medical attention and then made a statement to the police. The incident meant he missed his flight to Mexico for Sunday’s Heroes Inmortales X event.

In his statement, Del Rio said he provided written documentation to AAA to explain the reason for his absence. The wrestler was scheduled to compete with Psycho Clown against Dr.Wagner Jr, & Pagano in the main event.

Since Del Rio missed his appearance, the AAS promoters slammed the wrestler for his lack of commitment and “failing the Mexican public that has supported him throughout his career to become one of the leading figures in wrestling in Mexico and internationally.”

This is a sad turn of events for the former WWE star. Del Rio was released from his contract on September 9 after both parties came to a mutual decision. The wrestler was suspended for 30 days for violating the company’s Wellness Policy prior to the termination of his contract. The details of the infraction were not made public.

Despite missing the AAA event, Del Rio vowed to return to the ring and make all his remaining dates, including events in England this weekend.

TMZ Sports has reported that no arrests have been made in connection to the alleged attack.
