Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón has been congratulated for his Oscar win by the crew of the International Space Shuttle. The "Gravity" director was sent congratulations for his Academy Award from 239 miles above the surface of the earth. Via its Instagram account, NASA published a series of photos that they called #RealGravity in honor of Cuarón's nomination at the Oscars, as well as in tribute to the work of Emmanuel Lubezki whose brilliant cinematography recreated the world in space.

Cuarón's homage began the day of the Oscar's, March 2nd. "Tonight, #Gravity is up for awards at the #Oscars2014," read the Instagram post "we're sharing #RealGravity images from living & working in space. First up is this stunning picture where the bright sun greets the International Space Station." This was followed by a series of incredible pictures of life in space, which indeed resemble the magic created in Alfonso Cuarón's incredible film.

However, NASA didn't stop there. Astroanauts Mike Hopkins, Rich Mastracchio and Koichi Wakata, who are actually deployed to the space station, sent video messages to Cuarón and his team, thanking them for depicting their environment and congratulating them on their Oscar win. "I really enjoyed the movie and what I really liked was the sensation of space, the view from space, what Earth looksl like on the big screen," said Mike Massimino. But as Mastracchio reminds us, "nothing beats real space."
