It’s official — FXX’s hit adult animated spy series “Archer” has been greenlit for its eleventh season. The confirmation was made last month at the SDCC 2019.

Details about the upcoming season are a bit scarce, which is to be expected since production has likely not yet started. However, there are a few hints as to where its plot might be heading next.

The biggest surprise in the upcoming “Archer” Season 11 is that everything will return to normal, relatively speaking that is. In the past three seasons, the show’s plot has been pretty unpredictable — even by Archer standard — with each season having its own theme.

For instance, Season 8’s “Archer Dreamland” was set in 1947 Los Angeles, which was followed by Season 9’s “Archer Danger Island,” which is set somewhere in the South Pacific. The most recent season, titled “Archer 1999,” was the most futuristic of them all as it was set in space.

The varied plot of the three seasons can easily be explained as Archer was still in a coma the entire time due to the injury he received in Season 7. Thus, everything that happened since then was just his dream while still in the hospital.

In the upcoming season, however, Archer will be fully awake from his coma. This could mean that there won’t be any time jumps in its storyline and that the plot will likely continue from where the seventh season left off, that is, after adding a few years he spent while in a coma.

The characters will also be back to their usual selves unlike in the past three seasons, where the familiar characters were still around but were playing different roles as everything was just happening inside Archer’s head. In addition, the setting will most likely be earthbound this time, unlike Season 10’s space-based narrative.

But even with Archer back in its regular timeline, the show is expected to be far from boring. The series’ writers have been pretty consistent in surprising its loyal audience season after season, and the upcoming one won’t be any exception.

Unfortunately, there’s still no announcement as to when the release date for “Archer” Season 11 might be. But Screen Rant reported that the show is set for return by 2020.

According to the publication, previous seasons were released by April. The production team should have enough time to finish all episodes and release them by spring of 2020 should the show follow the pattern.
