"Arrow" returns for Episode 2 of Season 2 on Wednesday, October 16 with "Identity", directed by Nick Copus and written by Ben Sokolowski and Beth Schwartz. In tonight's episode, Oliver (Stephen Arnell) will find out that the medicine being sent to Glades Memorial is being hijacked by thieves - a bit of thievery which would force the closure of the hospital due to lack of supplies. Roy (Colton Haynes) will do his best to stop the thieves before failing and seeing himself arrested by Officer Lance (Paul Blackthorne). Oliver will do battle with China White (Kelly Hu) and her new partner Ben Turner (Michael Jai White), also known as the Bronze Tiger, as Laurel (Katie Cassidy) plots how to catch the Arrow and Thea (Willa Holland) gives Roy an ultimatum. Stephen Arnell sat down with IGN on October 15 to discuss what it's been like playing the role of Oliver this season. Apparently, the biggest strain was the physical one. "There's no way to prepare yourself for a 23-episode shoot, which is just shy of 200 days of production, plus all the different outside demands that came with it," he said. "By the time I was at the end of the first season, I was totally burnt. And I got sick for about six weeks. So once I let myself get better, I tried to get a bit of a mental recharge. Like a month before we started shooting this season, I was probably 25 pounds overweight, because I needed to relax. My body was really tired."
This season has marked a change in style from the first season of "Arrow". Instead of basing most of its action on the magical powers of the superheroes involved, last season's episodes saw characters toting lots of high-powered weaponry in what the Wall Street Journal calls "high-octane fight scenes". Viewers seemed to take to it - the premiere last year drew 4.1 million of them, more than any other CW Network show in three years. The Green Arrow mythology had already been modified for the screen, with a larger supporting cast added to Oliver Queen, including comics characters given a bigger role - Laurel Lance, Tommy Merlyn - as well as entirely new characters. Catch Episode 2 of the new season when "Identity" airs tonight at 8pm EST and 7pm CT, or catch the episode online here.
