NJ Waitress Receipt Gay
Receipt left by customers of Dayna Morales. Facebook/Have A Gay Day

Dayna Morales, a waitress at Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater, N.J., and veteran of the United States Marine Corps, made headlines earlier this month after a table she served left her a note instead of a tip on her copy of their receipt. "I'm sorry but I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle and how you live your life," the note said. "Normal introduction, 'My name is Dayna," Morales recalled. "I'll be taking care of you. Right away the mom looked at me and said, 'I thought you were going to say your name was Dan.'"

"I was rather offended, mad," she said. "I didn't know how to react to that. I never thought that would ever happen." Morales later took the events of the night to the Facebook page "Have A Gay Day," where she vented about her situation. "I am THOROUGHLY offended mad pissed off and hurt that THIS is what her kids will grow up learning and that I served in the Marines to keep ignorant people like them free. Sorry lady but I don't agree with YOUR lifestyle and the way you're raising your kids but you didn't see me throwing that in your face and giving you sh***y service. Keep your damn mouth shut and pray we never cross paths again."

However, according to NBC 4 New York, a family contacted them claiming their receipt looked exactly like the one Dayna had posted online, but there was one difference: they had left a generous tip and even provided what they said was a credit card statement as proof. The husband and wife, who asked to remain anonymous, showed the news station a receipt that appeared to be printed at the same minute, on the same date, for the same $93.55 total, except with an $18 tip. They also provided a document they said was a Visa bill, which appears to indicate their card was charged for the meal plus the tip, for a total of $111.55.

The couple said they came forward because the story of the receipt note was still making rounds on social media, and Morales even announced she was receiving tips from all over the world and was donating the money to the Wounded Warrior Project. "I just felt like people have a right to know that -- it's fine if people want to donate to her or to the Wounded Warriors, but they're doing it under a false pretense," the wife said. Gallop Asian Bistro said in a statement that they are launching an "internal investigation" into the dining discrepancy.

As for the couple, "We've never not left a tip when someone gave good service, and we would never leave a note like that," the wife said. The husband said he and his wife have both worked in restaurants and believe in the value of tipping, and noted that he didn't vote for Gov. Chris Christie because the governor doesn't support gay marriage. "Never would a message like that come from us," he said. Dayna was approached by NBC with the new claims, and she replied "I don't know, all I know is what I've been saying."
