A provocative social media post claiming that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes vowed to boycott the Super Bowl over Bad Bunny as the headliner halftime show, has gone viral. The post, shared widely across Facebook and fan pages, alleges that Mahomes "caused a stir" by publicly rejecting Bad Bunny's appearance at the halftime show.

The alleged quote, shared widely by a Chiefs fan page and MAGA-aligned accounts and published on the website USAMODE24, reads: "I won't play if they let Bad Bunny on that stage. This is the Super Bowl, not a circus." The post quickly went viral, racking up over 237,000 likes and sparking a flurry of online commentary, despite there being zero evidence Mahomes ever said anything remotely close to that.

An investigation by fact‑checkers of different publications, including The Latin Times shows there is no credible evidence that Mahomes ever commented about Bad Bunny, nor threatened a boycott.

The original post on Facebook, which amassed over 200,000 likes and 25,000 comments in a few hours was still on by the time this article was published.

The timing of the rumor ties into the broader backlash against Bad Bunny's halftime selection. Critics, especially from MAGA circles, have attacked the decision as un-American, claiming that a Spanish‑language performance has no place at the Super Bowl. Former President Donald Trump publicly called the move "absolutely ridiculous" and said he had never heard of the artist. Meanwhile, Bad Bunny himself responded by sharing on social media that after deliberation with his team, he will perform only one U.S. date. That revelation only added fuel to the ongoing debates.

Adding to the intrigue, Mahomes is married to Brittany Mahomes, who once drew attention in 2024 for liking a pro-Trump social media post. That connection has been repeatedly dragged into political conversations, and critics have sought to frame Mahomes as sympathetic to MAGA causes. But so far, those narratives have no clear statements or documented alignment from Mahomes himself.

At this point, Mahomes has stayed silent on the issue and continued focusing public attention on football. Everywhere from sports writers to media outlets agree that if he had made such a bombshell statement, it would be covered widely. No legitimate sports or news publication has reported any such remarks.

The Super Bowl is still months away. Bad Bunny's critics may keep pushing rumors and conspiracies, but this latest claim about Mahomes serves as a reminder to read carefully, verify sources, and resist the seductive pull of viral lies.
