Authorities have stumbled upon the appalling discovery of a young boy's lifeless body crammed inside a tote bag at a Jasper motel room on Tuesday, less than a week after a child was reported missing from his home in Houston.

Preliminary findings indicated that the recovered body is likely that of Samuel Olson, 6, who was initially reported missing by family members on May 27. They claimed that the little boy was snatched from their Houston residence the same night by an unknown male dressed as a cop, according to Jasper Police Chief Gerald Hall.

Olson had just turned six on Saturday, May 5. Police scoured possible areas he might have been following his disappearance, reported New York Daily News.

About a week later, the 6-year-old's body was retrieved savagely crammed into a tote bag at a Best Western Inn room in the 200 block of West Gibson Street shortly before 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The area is about 135 miles from Houston where Olson lived.

Police noted that the recovered corpse appears to have been at the motel room for some time based on the condition of the body. While the remains have not officially been identified, investigators strongly believed that they belong to the missing Houston boy, according to Fox News.

“[A] possible suspect is in custody and will be interviewed by our homicide investigators," Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said in a tweet on Wednesday night.

The last verifiable place the young boy was seen alive was at his elementary school on April 30, according to police, who noted there was contradictory information about his disappearance. There are fears the young Olson could have gone missing much earlier than reported.

In an appeal, the child's grandmother, Tonya Olson, told local media that she last saw her grandson on May 2 after he and his cousins visited her home and that she last spoke with him almost a week and a half ago.

The grandmother further maintained that the boy's father had nothing to do with the child's disappearance, noting that he loved him dearly and would do anything for him. The 6-year-old was found to be living with his father Dalton Olson and his fiancée, Theresa Balboa, who reported seeing the child last on May 27, Thursday morning, in the 8800 block of McAvoy Drive in southwest Houston.

“I was going to take Sam to school when his mother showed up with the police officer, or who I was under the impression to be a police officer, and they demanded that I release Sam,” according to Balboa, who insisted she was forced to hand the boy over to his mother.

A week later, Balboa had gone missing, according to the Olson father. The woman had reportedly fled Monday this week after they headed out to post flyers about his son's disappearance.

Reports suggested that after the 6-year-old's parents, Dalton and Sarah, finalized their divorce, the custody agreement placed the child with the mother and that the parents would regularly exchange the child through the paternal grandmother, Tonya. However, Sarah had been denied for many months from getting the child.

Attorney Marco González, a legal representative for the mother, has denied his client's involvement in the little boy's disappearance, refuting Balboa's earlier claims that the woman had picked her child up with a man dressed as a cop.

Before the body was found, the distressed Olson matriarch insisted that she did not know of the whereabouts of her own son either, MEAWW noted.

Meanwhile, Houston's Department of Family and Protective Services would not confirm which parent had custody of the boy but notes that they are working closely with police in light of the matter. Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact Houston Police or Texas Equusearch.
