No winds of change in the Republican Party. After Senator Rob Portman became the most prominent Republican to back same-sex marriage, House Speaker John Boehner said on Sunday that he will not be following in his steps.

"I believe that marriage is the union of one man and one woman," Boehner said on ABC News' "This Week With George Stephanopoulos." "I can't imagine that position would ever change."

While Boehner did not knock off his friend and fellow Ohio Republican's change of mind, he reiterated his own position.

"Listen, Rob's a great friend and a longtime ally, and I appreciate that he's decided to change his views on this. But this is what I grew up with, what I believe, what my church teaches me."

Portman became the first Republican in the Senate to support gay marriage on Friday, sparking a discussion among many conservatives. He states that his reversal was based on him learning two years ago that his 21-year-old son Will was gay.

"We conservatives believe in personal liberty and minimal government interference in people's lives," Portman wrote in The Columbus Dispatcher on Friday. "One way to look at it is that gay couples' desire to marry doesn't amount to a threat but rather a tribute to marry, and a potential source of renewed strength for the institution."
