Steve McQueen famously said, "Racing is Life - Everything Else is Just Waiting." Is that the singularly most cliche quote in auto racing? Screw it, I'll use it anyway just because the statement is actually true for some people and the rest of us are only jealous that the philosophy doesn't apply to us.
You've never heard of Ferdinand and Johannes Stuck before, but you will now. Ferdinand started his racing career in the Porsche Carrera Cup while Johannes Stuck raced in touring cars. But now, it's time to hit the big times. In "Brothers Pursuit - The 24 Hour Race 2012," the Stuck brothers document their race weekend with some cool behind-the-scenes footage to give us new found insight on what it's like to be a racing driver. Ultimately, racing is about fast laps and race wins. However, to live, eat, and sleep a racing career day in and day out makes racing so much more than that. In "Brothers Pursuit," the film captures the emotion, camaraderie, preparation, and even the less glorious failures that racers must sometimes endure.
The video begins with the Stuck brothers arriving to Nürburgring for the 24 hour endurance race. Upon arrival, Ferdi and Johannes worked with the Young Driver Aston Martin Racing team on conducting practice to ready the car for qualifying. The team also conducted interviews, press conferences, and PR events to make the sponsors happy. Finally, it was time for the Stuck brothers and teammates Darren Turn and Dennis Rostek to wring the car for qualifying.
Despite earning a decent position on the grid, the Aston Martin didn't fair so well during the race. Early on, the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 suffered a tire failure that later caused the carcass to tear apart, damaging the rear of the Aston as the rubber disintegrated. After that early setback, the drivers were back at it, fighting their way back up the grid. Unfortunately, damage to the Aston Martin's underbody forced the team to retire. The team finished a disappointing 101st overall of the 111 finishers. 169 vehicles were present at the start of the endurance race.
