California Governor Gavin Newsom blasted President Donald Trump's penchant for playground insults and what he called "weakness masquerading as strength" in an interview released Monday.

"All that reputational damage that's being done," Newsom said on The Shawn Ryan Show, referencing footage of ICE operations. "They're sitting there on horses with American flags, running through soccer fields, scaring kids... For what? Just toughness."

"That's what I don't like about this son of a bitch," Newsom continued, pausing to apologize for the language. "I know he's the president of the United States. Forgive me."

The governor also addressed Trump's longtime nickname for him, "Newscum," revealing the personal impact on his family.

"How do I explain that to my kid? I have my kids' friends calling my kids 'Newscum,'" Newsom revealed.

"That I get, because I was called that in 7th grade," he admitted. "But not by a 79-year-old."

"Model better goddamn behavior, man. Forgive the goddamn," Newsom added.

Trump has repeatedly targeted Newsom in speeches and on social media, painting him as the face of liberal policies he claims are ruining California. Newsom has not backed down in the adversarial relationship — the two continue to exchange public insults over the state's handling of protestors in response to ICE.

In June, Trump deployed the national guard and marines in LA against Newsom's wishes. The troops remain despite a lawsuit filed by Newsom objecting to their presence.

Amid the unrest, Newsom changed his tune concerning a potential bid for the presidency in 2028. While he previously denied any interest, in June he was less dismissive of the idea, telling the Wall Street Journal: "I'm not thinking about running, but it's a path that I could see unfold."
