Ranked No. 74 at the end of 2021, Caroline Garcia topped off a 2022 comeback season, as she won the Women’s Tennis Association Title on Monday, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Ranked outside the top 70 as recently as June, Garcia strung together wins against Coco Gauff, Daria Kasatkina and Maria Sakkari before claiming the 7-6 ,6-4 victory over Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka.

Garcia has become the second French player to win the WTA Tour’s season-ending tournament after Amelie Mauresmo’s title run in 2005. Currently, the 29 year-old is ranked No. 4 in the world and took home $1.57 million in prize money along with the trophy.

“With this tournament I think from one match to another I really played better and better,” said the Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France native, in an interview with Tennis Channel while sporting a cowboy hat in Texas.
