We’ve seen Karl Lagerfeld take his shows all over the world and make all different types of stunning presentations, but this is the first time a runway show of this sort has happened in Cuba.

To design his Chanel Resort 2017 Collection, Lagerfeld took inspiration from the richness and colors of the Cuban culture.

The Chanel show marks the first time that a major company has staged such a massive production in the Caribbean island. It was made possible now that the trade embargo has been lifted and travel restrictions have been loosened.

Numerous celebrities who were in attendance included Vanessa Paradis, Tilda Swinton, Buena Vista Social Club member, Omara Portuondo, Vin Diesel and one of Lagerfield’s longtime muses, Gisele Bündchen. All in all, the event gathered together 700 V.I.P. guests.

“Suddenly, Cuba is the most talked-about place in the world, and we’re the first with fashion,” Lagerfield told Women’s Wear Daily. “Cuba is like nothing else in the world because it has an identity I love, and I always wanted to go, but I needed a professional reason.”

Attendants and models drove to the show in a caravan of colorful classic cars, and the runway show took place on one of Cuba’s most important avenues, Paseo del Prado, which is situated in Old Havana.

The collection included colorful pieces, t-shirts with phrases like “Viva Coco Libre,” pearls, flowers, tweed dresses, embroidered maxi skirts, silk pants, fedoras, denim pieces, airy sweaters and all things that fashion dreams are made of.

The show has been rumored to be his last collection due to his deteriorating health. However, nothing's been confirmed. Lagerfeld, who actually used to dance the cha-cha and tango professionally and is a huge fan of Latin music, took his closing bow with godson Hudson Kroenig before being joined by the models and musicians to have a dance party in the street.
