This is far and away one of the most intimate demonstrations on what being a Le Mans racing driver is all about. Via AutoGuide, footage from a video camera that was mounted onto Jordan Taylor's helmet inside the #73 Corvette Racing ZR1 has been uploaded onto the internet, taking viewers along for a ride around Circuit de la Sarthe during a test day.
Lapping the 8.5 mile circuit at night, the helmet cam tracks every movement Jordan Taylor makes, almost cataloging everything from what he is looking at, what he is thinking about, and the fears he must overcome while tackling the challenging circuit nearly blind. Note how Taylor constantly checks his mirrors during his all out run across the Mulsanne straight as he makes sure that an LMP1 won't sneak up on him. Taylor's helmet camera also shows how early in advance a racing driver must look into, and follow the exit of, a corner.
What's more, note the array of data fed to Taylor on the center console all vying for his attention as he threads his way through the track at break neck speeds.
Despite obviously sharing the track with other racers on the field, there is a sense of solitude in the moments behind the wheel during the night shift.
Enough from me, check out the video below to experience the undertaking of a 24 hour endurance race yourself.
