England-based race car builder Cosworth established its name from its motorsport affiliations with Ford and Subaru during their peak of World Rally involvement. Now that Ford and Subaru have both withdrawn their commitment to rallying and Hyundai schedules its return with the Hyundai i20 WRC, a new generation of Cosworth performance vehicles are in store in the near future.
As the annual SEMA show approaches, Cosworth as confirmed that it has been working alongside Hyundai to debut a very special Hyundai Genesis Coupe, which Cosworth claims will be the "ultimate" in performance.
Its rare to see the usually modest English dish out hyperbole, but in any case, the Cosworth Genesis Racing Series Coupe boasts 389-hp and 325 lb.-ft. of torque from a 3.8 liter direct-injection V6 engine.
The numbers are certainly impressive but it isn't particular shocking -- Cosworth builds pride in its emphasis in finesse and optimum packaging over sheer performance figures. That said, Cosworth's Genesis upgrade is meant to offer the best of both on-track performance as well as day-to-day drivability. Enhancements include an improved engine cooling capacity, Cosworth intake and exhuast, Cosworth performance brake system, Cosworth performance suspension, and finally a unique aero kit including splitter, diffuser, and spoiler. Cosworth has enhanced the interior of the Genesis as well, offering a tasteful Cosworth-made steering wheel, shift nob, pedals, sports seats, as well as an uprated two-tone interior trim.
Exact details, images, and availability on the latest Cosworth-Hyundai project car have yet to be announced. Stay tuned as we draw closer to the upcoming SEMA show in Las Vegas.
