There will be another “CSI” alumnus joining “CSI Vegas” season 2. She will be no other than Catherine Willows (Marge Helgenberger) who returns but possibly in a different capacity.

For those who caught “CSI Vegas” season one, most will recall that the show focused a lot on two former “CSI” cast members. These were namely Gil Grissom (William Petersen) and Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox).

Originally, casting Grissom and Sidle was seen like a passing of the torch or in support of the new breed of crime scene investigators. However, that was hardly felt with the most focusing on Grissom, Sidle and David Hodges (Wallace Langham).

For season 2, it appears Willows will not follow the same route. The actress shared on her Instagram a photo of herself alongside Matt Lauria who portrays Josh Folsom. They could be seen side-by-side, hinting that the second season would see Helgenberger will be mixed with the new characters that can somehow help establish the identity of the new breed of CSIs.

The social media post places Helgenberger on equal footing with Lauria, possibly even more.

“CSI Vegas” season 2 needs to focus on its regulars for the reboot to also establish its own identity. The insertion of Grissom, Sidle and Willows are seen more as guides to help the current cast members to establish an appeal that would separate them from other CSI shows.

This could dictate how long “CSI Vegas” could be up. Using familiar faces is ok and nostalgic. But the reality of it all, the new breed needs to establish its niche.

Aside from Lauria, other cast members who need to step up and establish their characters include Paula Newsome, Mandeep Dhillon and Jay Lee.

Some season 1 cast members will not return but new ones will take their place. With Willows now taking her turn, it will be interesting how the new mix will work out for “CSI Vegas.”
