The father of a Georgia high schooler who has been arrested for allegedly shooting her mother and stepfather to death in their bed has defended his daughter, stating that he believes in her innocence.
43-year-old Doniel Patrick has defended his daughter, 17-year-old Sarah Grace Patrick, after visiting her at Carroll County detention facility on Sunday with his girlfriend Katie and his 12-year-old son Donnie.
"Sarah Grace maintains her innocence, we believe her," Katie told DailyMail.com. "We are all supporting her. It's a very difficult time," she said.
Katie revealed that Patrick, who has been in law enforcement custody since July 8, is meeting with her lawyers on Monday.
"After that, we will [speak] to the press, to make sure we advocate for Sarah Grace," Katie continued. "For now, we are going to sit back for a second, just to make sure everything is in her benefit and not in her hinderance."
Patrick is accused of murdering her mom, 41-year-old Kristin, and her stepfather, 45-year-old James Brock, by shooting them to death in their beds as they slept in their Atlanta home on February 20. Patrick was confirmed to have been in the house during the murders. Her 5-year-old sister discovered the bodies, upon which Patrick called the police.
Police later issued a warrant for Patrick's arrest, upon which she turned herself into law enforcement, being escorted to a police station by her father.
Doniel has not openly discussed the charges being levied against his daughter, instead sharing cryptic messages to social media such as a quote reading "Don't ever judge anyone on how they handle a pain you've never felt."
Patrick was initially denied bail due to the severe nature of her charges.
"The Defendant asserts her presumption of innocence and further states that she will not improperly leave the jurisdiction of this court or fail to appear when required, is not a threat or danger to any person or property in the community and poses no significant risk to re-offend or to intimidate witnesses or justice," said Patrick's public defender, Latoya Williams.
"Accordingly, the Defendant requests that a hearing on this motion be held on the next regularly scheduled calendar for bond hearings following the undersigned date and that bond be set in a reasonable amount."
