"Mallrats" director and comicbook fanboy Kevin Smith has expressed his desire to put his directing skills toward the coming seasons of Netflix's "Daredevil" and "The Defenders."

Smith has long been established as one of the most geek-friendly filmmakers around, but the actor and director has not had his hands in too many superhero projects. In fact, Smith's only comic-related project is a 2016 episode of The CW's "The Flash."

During a recent interview with IGN, Smith revealed that he would want to direct an episode of the coming season of Marvel and Netflix's "Daredevil" and is actively "campaigning" for the job. Smith said, "I feel very at home in that Flash world, so much so that I’d love to do the others. I even told [Marvel chief creative officer] Joe Quesada – we worked on Daredevil together back in the day, I wrote it, he drew it – I said, ‘Dude, I want to direct Daredevil, man. That’d be wild to be able to do it in real-life – let’s co-direct it, that’d be cool, just like we did the book. We could co-direct an episode and then, like, take the passion from the page to the screen. I'm going to try and make that Daredevil thing happen. Every time I talk to Quesada or [executive vice president of Marvel Television] Jeph Loeb, I'm like, 'Hey! When are you going back down to the cameras?'"

Aside from "Daredevil," Smith would also love an opportunity to contribute his directing skills to Marvel's "The Defenders" miniseries. Smith excitedly explained what directing "The Defenders" would mean to him, comparing it to a mini Avengers.

"If I can get a piece of that Defenders mini-series holy s**t, could you imagine, dude? Because then you’re working with multiple suits at once, that’d be phenomenal," said Smith. "Just doing a mini Avengers – even one episode of that run of Defenders is like, ‘oh, I get to exercise any interest I had in Avengers but doing it on a scale where nobody’s betting $200 million on the guy that made f**kin’ Yoga Hosers."

"Daredevil" Seasons 1 and 2, as well as "Jessica Jones" Season 1 are now available on Netflix. The first season of “Luke Cage” will arrive this fall on Sept. 30.

We are still waiting on release date announcements for "Jessica Jones" Season 2, "Iron Fist," "The Defenders" and "The Punisher." Furthermore, "Daredevil" Season 3 has yet to be confirmed.
