Authorities are currently investigating the death of Goo Hara, the K-pop star who was found dead inside her home on Sunday. Goo Hara was a former member of the enormously popular K-pop group Kara, one of the first female K-pop groups to receive international acclaim.

Goo Hara’s death comes six months after her first suicide attempt earlier this year. Back in May, the popular star was also found unconscious inside her home following an apparent suicide attempt but was able to recover shortly afterwards. At the time, she had just been involved in a high-profile legal battle with her ex-boyfriend, who had threatened to expose her sex videos as revenge.

The legal battle did not turn out well for Goo Hara. As the media closely covered the case hearings, the K-pop star received more criticisms than sympathy from the public.

Before she attempted suicide in May, Goo Hara insinuated on Instagram that she was going through something, causing growing concern among her fans. On her Instagram stories, Goo Hara shared revealed that she had been down in the dumps for years, but nobody knew about it.

“After living all those years with suppression, I look fine on the outside, but it feels as if I am starting to break into pieces inside,” she wrote. After being hospitalized that month, she apologized to her fans for the commotion she had caused. “I’m recovering,” she wrote. Many things overlapped and I had been suffering. But I’ll steel myself and work to show you my healthy self,” she added.

Authorities have yet to release an official report as to Goo Hara’s passing, but fans are positive that suicide was the cause of her death. Just last week, she graced her fans with a new Instagram photo of herself, captioned “good night.”

Goo Hara died just a little over a month since her good friend Sulli’s passing. K-pop star Sulli was also found dead inside her home after committing suicide in October. Her death instigated discourses about celebrity culture and workload in South Korea, as she was not the first celebrity to commit suicide due to pressure and harassment in the industry. Shinee’s Jonghyun also suffered from depression and died by suicide in 2017.
