Mexican actor Diego Luna has been cast to star in the pilot episode for the Amazon and Electus new show about Giacomo Casanova directed by Oscar-nominated Jean-Pierre Jeunet as reported by Deadline. Luna will be co-starring with Bojana Novakovic, Miranda Richardson, Ben Daniels and Amelia Clarkson. While the series has yet to receive a name, it will be about an almost unknown period of Casanova’s life where he became a spy for the Parisian government after escaping Venice’s most impenetrable prison, determined to leave his wild life behind him. The series will also show the famous womanizer’s other talents, including diplomacy, linguistics and music.
The script, written by Stu Zicherman (known for “The Americans) will have Novakovic palying Gioacomos’ royal French mistress Madame de Pompadour, Daniels will play Francois-Joachim de Bernis, Clarkson plays Manon Balletti and Richardson will portray Marquise d’Urfé. The series’ executive producers will be Electus’ Ben Silverman (from “Jane the Virgin and “Marco Polo”) as well as Stu Zicherman, and Sarah Caplan (from “Ray Donovan”) as a co-executive producer.
Luna will be joining longtime BFF Gael García Bernal in the Amazon universe, as he stars in the original web series “Mozart in the Jungle” based on the classical music world memoir by Blair Tindall and on a certain level on the Venezuela’s conducting superstar, Gustavo Dudamel. García Bernal played conducting prodigy Rodrigo D’Souza, who saves mediocre orchestras all over the world, with a good balance between a musical genius and a regular young guy who wants to have fun.
