After saving the world from the Cult of the Unwritten Book like it's no big deal, the Doom Patrol is in for another crazy adventure when the DC Universe show of the same name returns with a new episode next week, very aptly titled “Doom Patrol Patrol.”

In this installment, the team members are going to meet their spandex-rocking predecessors. The promo gives viewers a glimpse of the original team as they take some publicity photos. However, when Jane, Larry and Rita see them face to face, they've already hung their admittedly campy outfits for a cozy life free of superhero antics.

One of the original members of the team being introduced is Steve Dayton, better known as Mento. In the comics, he is established as the stubborn leader of the group. He is extremely rich and smart, building a powerful helmet for himself to amplify his psychic powers. The promo for “Doom Patrol Patrol” teases that Rita might be taken by him. This is clearly a nod to the comics, where the two are actually husband and wife.

There is a lot of excitement surrounding Mento's live-action debut. After all, before this, the character has only appeared in animated shows like “Teen Titans” and “Young Justice.” However, it doesn't look like Mento will be around for more than one episode. Will Kemp, who plays the character, is set to appear only in this episode. The same goes for the other two original members, Rhea Jones (a.k.a. Lodestone) and Arani Desai (a.k.a. Celsius), played by Lesa Wilson and Jasmine Kaur, respectively.

The former, as her name suggests, operates in harmony with the Earth's magnetic field, a strange connection that gave her super strength, invulnerability and super agility. The latter, on the other hand, is an immortal with the ability to control temperature. She can shoot intense heat or cold from her hands.

While the original and new team get acquainted, “Doom Patrol Patrol” will also see Cyborg and Robotman hang out as they discover that they both have “daddy issues.” Their longing for a father figure might bring the two closer. In the promo, however, Robotman's attempts aren't doing him any favors. He does seem to have the dad jokes down, though. So prepare for some hilarity and awkwardness when these two share the screen.

“Doom Patrol Patrol” will air on March 22 on DC Universe. Watch the promo below.
