Global pop star Dua Lipa shared that she fell ill during a recent stay in Mexico, shortly after wrapping the final dates of her Radical Optimism world tour in the country. While the singer once again expressed her affection for Mexico, she admitted her body struggled to keep up after weeks of touring and indulging in local cuisine.
The British-Albanian artist extended her stay in Mexico City after the successful conclusion of her tour, using the downtime to revisit some of her favorite restaurants. However, what was meant to be a short vacation turned into an unexpected recovery period.
In a post shared on her official Instagram account, Dua Lipa revealed that she spent several days in Mexico City for what she described as her final work commitments of the year. She added that the opportunity to enjoy Mexican food again was a highlight of the trip, but also hinted that the experience came at a cost.
She wrote that after four days in the Mexican capital, her immune system "finally said enough," forcing her to spend her last day resting in bed. According to the singer, she passed the time watching Expiación and crying, suggesting a combination of physical exhaustion and illness.
Although Dua Lipa did not specify a medical diagnosis, her comments were widely interpreted by fans as a case of the so called Vengeance of Moctezuma, a colloquial term often used to describe stomach issues experienced by travelers in Mexico.
The health setback came at the end of an intense touring cycle across Latin America. As part of the Radical Optimism tour, Dua Lipa performed sold out shows in Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, and Brazil, drawing massive crowds and strong reviews. Her Latin American leg was among the most successful of the tour, with high demand for tickets and multiple dates added in key cities.
Throughout the tour, the singer frequently praised Latin American audiences, highlighting their energy and emotional connection during live performances. Mexico, in particular, has become a recurring stop in her career, with Dua Lipa often speaking publicly about her love for the country's culture, food, and nightlife.
Despite the illness, the singer's message reassured fans that she was resting and taking time to recover. There were no reports of canceled commitments beyond the tour's planned conclusion, and no indication that her condition was serious.
Dua Lipa has not announced her next public appearance, but her team previously confirmed that 2026 will include new music and select festival dates following the close of the Radical Optimism era. For now, the artist appears focused on recovery after a demanding year on the road, one that ended with both celebration and an unexpected pause in Mexico City.
