The infamous original Eleanor Mustang sold for $1 million during last week's Dana Mecum 26th Original Spring Classic Auction in Indianapolis.
The 2000 blockbuster "Gone In 60 Seconds" stars actor Nicolas Cage as legendary car thief Memphis Raines. At the movie's climax, Raines steals a Ford Mustang GT500, affectionately known as "Eleanor," to complete his last and his ultimate car heist. "Gone In 60 Seconds" boasts one of the most memorable car chases on the silver screen.
While the Eleanor isn't an original Shelby, it still has an interesting story behind it. The car was built by Cinema Vehicle Services with the help of legendary custom hot-rodder Chip Foose. Featuring a modern interpretation of the 1967 mustang front fascia, Underneath the hood is a sturdy 351 Ford V8 crate engine, rated at 400 horsepower.
The Ford V8 is mated to a four-speed manual transmission, transferring power to the rear wheels. Lowered suspension with coil overs and Goodyear F1 tires wrapped around 17 inch wheels make sure that the Eleanor Mustang handles like a dream. A faux nitrous kit is also included.
But why is it $1 million? Because of the staggering cult following.
