It appears that at the time when Wolf was getting out of the SUV. However, there was another vehicle at the back, allegedly a Honda Pilot, or a Toyota Corolla. The vehicle switched lanes to avoid the stalled SUV and inadvertently hit the 43-year-old who had just gotten out of the rear passenger side and was standing in the roadway.

“Shocked & saddened to hear this tragic news,” Cuomo tweeted. “Sid was a phenomenal public servant who worked relentlessly for the betterment of all NY’ers.”

The other passengers who were with Wolf at that time were uninjured. The driver of the Toyota stayed at the scene but the Lyft driver was able to flee. He is still at large according to authorities.

The sister of Wolf, Brooke Freed, was also distraught at the news, saying he lost one of his favorite people in the world.

“When I woke up to a phone call at 5:27 a.m. [Sunday], I had no idea it would be the start to one of the worst days of my life,” she said. The sister also called it “the moment your entire life changes.”
