The Rush Facebook Page just shared four image stills from scenes of the highly anticipated movie. Directed by Academy Award winner Ron Howard of Apollo 13 fame, Rush documents the fierce rivalry between Formula 1 drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauda during the 1976 Championship season. Starring Chris Hemsworth (Thor, The Avengers) as Hunt and Daniel Bruhl (Bourne Ultimatum, Inglourious Basterds) as Lauda, the film is expected to reach theaters in 2013.
2013 is a long wait so it's great to see a Rush fanpage to keep the fans happy during the meantime. At the moment, the Facebook feed is a bit short and pictures are sparse, but Ron Howard has also been highly active on his Twitter account, tweeting away plenty of blurbs to document the progress of the production. Sharing everything from behind the scene prep work, images from the hospital set, Olivia Wilde in vintage Gucci, pit garage stills, to the racing cars and shots from the iconic Nurburgring race track, Ron Howard has been very generous to the fans.
While it's clear that Ron Howard is very enthusiastic about his new project, he also admits that he wasn't a true fan of Formula 1. In fact, it wasn't until Howard received Peter Morgan's script did he discovered its appeal. In an interview with Hollywood Reporter, Ron Howard said, "These are fascinating characters- ballsy, masculine guys. It was a very dangerous era in racing, and here are two absolute individuals at the height of their powers. It makes for great drama and very exciting action. I wasn't a die-hard Formula 1 fan before I read Peter's script, but I've been immersing myself in this world. I think the excitement I feel as a fresh convert may be infectious."
