At least four patients reportedly died after a fire broke out at a private hospital in Mumbai, India.

Prime Criticare Hospital near Thane in Mumbai caught on fire during the early hours on Wednesday, April 28.

Fire extinguishers immediately responded to the scene and were able to contain the fire completely, officials said.

Twenty patients including six in the Intensive Care Unit were evacuated. No Covid patients were reported to be admitted to the hospital at the time of the incident, officials added.

Four patients suffered life-threatening burns and later succumbed to the injuries.

The victims have not yet been publicly identified.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray declared a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh to deceased victims' families while the injured will receive Rs 1 lakh each.

In a similar incident, a mother and her 6-year-old daughter died after a fire broke out in a residential area in Santa Cruz, Manila.

Frencelyn Batol and her daughter Precious Victoria were killed Wednesday, April 28, after their attempts to escape from the window of their burning apartment went in vain.

A third victim, identified as Jonel Mandap, who suffered life-threatening injuries was rushed to the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center.

The 36-year-old was being treated for second-degree burns which doctors say has affected 79 percent of his body. It is unclear whether Mandap was a relative of the two deceased victims.

The cause of the fire is being investigated, however, according to local sources it is believed to have occurred from an aircon explosion that happened in one of the four apartment units.

Onlookers reported seeing the mother and child trying to escape through their apartment window. However, they did not make it as the windows were fitted with grills. Their charred bodies were retrieved hours later.

At least five families were residing in the apartment complex, and all of them were reportedly affected by the fire.
