California Governor Gavin Newsom lambasted a Republican Senator for posting a video to social media in which he mocks Newsom for levying legal action against President Donald Trump after the National Guard was deployed to Los Angeles.

Newsom clapped back at Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin after Mullin posted a video to X in which he criticizes Newsom for not taking action against the immigration protests occurring in California.

"If you want to discuss violence, let's start with your state's murder rate — which is 40% higher than California's," Newsom posted to X in response to Mullin.

"So have you guys heard what Governor Newsom just did? He literally is suing the President of the United States for deploying the National Guard to protect his state and his city. Can you imagine this? Because he's trying to do something the Governor's not willing to do? And that's by restoring law and order," Mullin began in the video.

"Now keep in mind, the chief of police in LA has already said that he's overwhelmed and he needs help. Governor Newsom wasn't responding so the President did. People act like this is something new, it's not new. President Eisenhower did this in '57 and deployed the 101st airborne. JFK did this in '62 and '63 and LBJ did this in '65. So this isn't anything new," Mullin continued.

"When the Governor is refusing to act and protect his citizens, when a Mayor of a town is refusing to act, the President has the authority to do just exactly what President Trump is doing. Keep in mind, the President campaigned on and he's been leading on restoring law and order back to our states, back to our cities and back to our streets. I support President Trump 100% for willing to have the backbone to stand up and fight for everyone against this lawless act," he concluded.

Social media users quickly chimed into the feud between the two legislators.

"Watching Newsom prove over and over that red state violence is always swept under the rug, while they say how bad it is in every blue state," said one user.

"Do you think it may be because your cities failed to report the crimes to the fed databases?" said another user, criticizing Newsom.

"I agree, Oklahoma has a high crime rate. I don't feel safe in Oklahoma to be honest," a third chimed in.

"Irony alert: Sen. Mullin, A-rated by the NRA, opposed background checks, assault weapons bans, and fought to expand 'gun rights.' Maybe not the best guy to lecture anyone about violence," said a fourth.

Oklahoma's statewide murder rate sits at about 6.09 per 100,000, whereas California's is about 4.95 per 100,000, according to World Population Review.
