Republican Sen. Markwayne Mullin defended President Donald Trump's publication disparaging prolific director Rob Reiner following his killing, claiming it wasn't "controversial."
Speaking to CNN, Mullin said Trump was "respectful" to Rainer as he "said he was once a really good actor and all that," pointing out "the fact that he didn't like him at all, but wished him, you know, ended the text fine."
Republican Sen. Markwayne Mullin, a close Trump ally, defended the president's social media post attacking Rob Reiner, arguing it was "not controversial" and Trump was "respectful" to Reiner.

"You guys make out at what you want. I didn't think it was distasteful at all. It's no secret, the guy does not like President Trump. President Trump went up and still did it in a very nice way," Mullin added.
Mullin's remarks stand in contrast with those of other Republican lawmakers who did condemn Trump's words. One of them was Rep. Thomas Massie, who said "regardless of how you felt about Rob Reiner, this is inappropriate and disrespectful discourse about a man who was just brutally murdered."
"I guess my elected GOP colleagues, the VP, and White House staff will just ignore it because they're afraid? I challenge anyone to defend it," he added.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene also noted that Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer, were "tragically killed at the hands of their own son, who reportedly had drug addiction and other issues, and their remaining children are left in serious mourning and heartbreak."
Axios detailed that Trump's former lawyer Jenna Ellis, MAGA podcaster Jack Posobiec and Turning Point USA spokesman Andrew Kolvet also reacted with compassion to the killing.
Trump posted on Monday that Reiner and Singer died "reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME."
He also called Reiner a "tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star," and said he was "known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump." And claimed that his "obvious paranoia" reached "new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before." "May Rob and Michele rest in peace!" he concluded.
The Associated Press reported that Reiner's younger son, Nick, is in police custody for what investigators believe was the fatal stabbing of the two. He has been "booked for murder" and is being held on $4 million bail.
The outlet noted that Nick has spoken publicly about struggles with addiction and homelessness, and he and his father had collaborated on a semi-autobiographical movie called "Being Charlie," which included elements of their relationship.
