With the “Gossip Girl” reboot now confirmed by CW President Mark Pedowitz, the next big question is “Will Blake Lively and Leighton Meester join the new cast?” It's possible!

Fans certainly hope so, as the two propelled the original show to greatness. People still associate Lively and Meester to the show despite the show endeding in 2012.

As for the reboot, according to Deadline it will be focused on a new set of controversial elite teens. Fans can certainly anticipate a range of antics that can only be pulled by wealthy teens whose lives center on drama, drama, and more drama.

The logline for the upcoming reboot reads, “eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl. The prestige series will address just how much social media—and the landscape of New York itself—has changed in the intervening years.”

While it may seem that Serena Van De Woodsen ( Lively’s character) and Blair Waldorf (Meester’s role) will no longer figure into this new storyline, nothing has been set in stone.

For their part, both Lively and Meester already made it clear in the past that they would not hesitate to reprise their roles if that possibility arises. In April 2017, Lively told Variety that while becoming a mother probably meant she can no longer devote seven years of her life to the show, she will never say never to the chance of doing “Gossip Girl” with the original cast. “If it was good, if it made sense. We had so much fun shooting and living and working in New York City,” she explained.

In August of 2017, Meester also shared to Vanity Fair a similar answer. "If everyone was into it and if the timing was right, you know? I don’t want to say, ‘No, never…’” she said. Meester was asked again by E! News in April 2019 on her willingness to do the series again and her answer remained unchanged.

Another one of the original cast, Chace Crawford, who played Nate Archibald, shared that he too is willing to do “Gossip Girl” again, but was more concerned of the nitty-gritty of it. He was quite sure that he is not going to be playing a high schooler. “They’ll probably just reboot it and cast all new young kids,” he told US Weekly. “How are we going to do it? … At 35, I’m still at the high school there, wearing my uniform?”

If the fans are going to be asked, most would say they want the original cast back. Most are wishing to see possible cameos from Lively, Meester, and Crawford, among others.
