Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's £11 million ($14 million) Montecito mansion is reportedly engulfed by a foul smell leaving neighbors "disgusted."
A foul smell has surrounded the home of celebrities in Montecito, California. Meghan and Harry's neighborhood is said to be overrun with a bad smell. The odor issue is caused by the nearby Andrée Clark Bird Refuge, a saltwater marsh. The area is one of the largest wildlife refuges in Santa Barbara and the water can become "stagnant," leading to foul smell.
A resident told the Mirror, "It smells like offal that has been rotting in the sun. It makes my stomach churn. I've seen lots of homeowners closing their windows when it wafts over."
Cameron Benson, clean water manager for the City of Santa Barbara said, "Water can become stagnant there. The odour issues are sporadic and sometimes they are worse in some conditions."
According to the local officials, the stench could last as long as autumn. It is not the first lousy smell Meghan and Harry have had to contend with. The couple had other issues, including a nearby cannabis base. It was previously reported the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been residing just minutes away from a legal weed factory base in Santa Barbara, California. The couple's luxurious mansion is up the road from the 20 large greenhouses full of plants, leaving the luxury suburb reeking.
The neighborhood made various complaints, urging the company to install new "odour control systems." One resident had to pull over while driving along the road due to the strong smell.
It comes as Meghan and Harry have yet to publicly congratulate Queen Elizabeth as she celebrates her Platinum Jubilee this year. The couple have remained silent, despite the Queen's hope for Camilla to become Queen Consort when Prince Charles is eventually crowned King.
The couple do not use social media--all updates on their lives are provided through their Archewell website. Harry and Meghan recently confirmed that "sources" will no longer speak for them, and they decided only to comment when they wished to through their official press team.
Harry is expected to return to the UK for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in April. There has been no confirmation whether Meghan, Archie and Lilibet will accompany the prince.
