Who doesn’t miss Peter Petrelli? Well, I guess I can’t speak for everyone but I certainly miss the hospice nurse turned superhero, which makes the idea of a “Heroes” return all the more exciting. But don’t expect NBC, who revealed the revamp, to simply pick up where Season 4 abruptly ended. The new miniseries, “Heroes: Reborn” was ordered by NBC as a 13-episode standalone series, however not yet confirmed as being directly related to its original predecessor, the miniseries will be produces by “Heroes” creator Tim Kring. NBC cancelled the popular series in 2010 after four seasons, however many fans of the comic book format show felt it never really came to a resolved conclusion. In actuality the “Heroes” finale ends with teasing future episode, by opening a nonexistent volume 6 entitled “Brave New World.” The audience was only able to see the beginning of volume 6, with Claire Bennet revealing the existence of people with special abilities, who are also known as post humans, to the media, a large group of reporters and photographers capture her story before the series concluding seemingly for good.
While NBC has confirmed the revamp, the miniseries isn’t set to premiere until 2015, meaning fans will have plenty of time to speculate on the plot lines. Once possible premise for the new series is that “Heroes: Reborn” will pick up where volume 6 “Brave New World” left off at. A new reality of the world could be an open knowledge about people with superpowers and advanced abilities, although like we have seen before on “Heroes” people don’t normally like others who are different. Tim Kring has previously expressed his desire to bring the “Heroes” universe back to TV, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly back in 2010, Kring revealed possible plot lines for a revamp stating, “Any number of stories could happen around that. We never posited a single ending or a single premise. It wasn’t about getting off of an island or stopping something from happening.” He continued, “We told stories in volumes that had a beginning, a middle, and an end. Those volumes could go on and on and on with many different characters. As a result, that Heroes universe is something that can be tapped into again in many ways.”
In addition to Kring, President of NBC Entertainment, Jennifer Salke revealed that there will be multiple off shots from the initial story, and even hinted at the possibility of the original cast returning, “'Until we get closer to air in 2015, the show will be appropriately shrouded in secrecy, but we won’t rule out the possibility of some of the show’s original cast members popping back in.” One cast member that seems eager to pop back into his role is Masi Oka, who played the title role of Hiro Nakamura. The actor tweeted, “Was watching the Olympics and saw the #HeroesReborn trailer. Time to dust off the sword?” Oka’s character carried an iconic samurai sword throughout the series.
