Hipnosis a popular rock band from Cuba landed in Miami on Monday and asked the United States to grant its members asylum. The Cuban heavy metal band was on its way to a Castro approved gig in California.

When they arrived in Miami the representative from the Cuban government that was traveling with the band told Hipnosis if the stepped out of the airport the Miami police would arrest them.

The band members did not believe what the woman was telling them and decided to request asylum. The lead singer Ramiro Pupo was the first to make the asylum request and the rest of the band followed suit.

The bass player for Hipnosis told bravewords.com he and his fellow band mates had not thought about leaving Cuba for good until they arrived in the US. Most of the band's members have family in the states.

Another singer and member of Hipnosis spoke with the Miami New Times and confirmed that the band was indeed seeking asylum.

"One by one, we were leaving the line in the airport," Giovany Milhet said in his interview. "[The government woman] was the last one. She never knew what was happening!"

Two members of the band were not with the others when they arrived in Miami. Maylin Ruiz another Hipnosis singer and keyboard player Glencys Toro were planing to meet up with the rest of the band when they arrived in California.

The Hipnosis members seeking asylum are currently staying with family. They are still waiting on paper work to come back before beginning their tour. Milhet told the Miami New Times they are happy to be in the US and hope they can make it big in the American music world.
