“Game Of Thrones” has just ended, and fans are already running high with speculations about how the fantasy novel on which the epic fantasy series was based will wrap up. While renowned author George R.R. Martin has yet to complete the last two books in “A Song Of Ice And Fire,” he has revealed to “Game Of Thrones” showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss how he plans to end his novel series.

The HBO series is based on Martin’s “A Song of Ice And Fire” novel series. By the time “Game Of Thrones” reached its sixth season, however, the TV series had already overtaken the books. The last two seasons of “Game Of Thrones” were solely based on the details discussed by showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss with Martin, who had revealed to them how the whole narrative would end in the novels.

In his discussion with Benioff and Weiss, Martin revealed that the ending of “Game Of Thrones” would have to be similar to that of his novel series. Although he noted that there would be some differences, he said their endings would be roughly the same. That means that whoever ended up on the Iron Throne in episode 6 of Season 8 of the “Game Of Thrones” is likely the same person to emerge victorious in the novel.

That does not mean, however, that there is no more reason for fans to look forward to the two books. In a recent interview, Martin revealed that certain plots and characters from the novels never made it to the TV series. “There’s no way to get in all the detail, all the minor characters, all the secondary characters,” he said.

“The series has been extremely faithful compared to 97% of all television and movie adaptations of literary properties. But it’s not completely faithful. And it can’t be. Otherwise, it would have to run another five seasons,” he added.

Martin has yet to announce the release date for the last two books, “The Winds Of Winter” and “A Dream Of Spring.” When HBO ordered a series based on “A Song Of Ice And Fire,” the agreement was for Martin to finish all the books in his novel series before the TV series ever reaches the story material from the last two books.

However, things did not go as planned. “Game Of Thrones” debuted on HBO alongside the release of the fifth book in the novel series “A Dance With Dragons,” and it quickly caught up with Martin’s writing. The author had failed to release a new book since.
