Prince Philip’s favorite child is rumored to be Prince Edward. And there have also been some claims suggesting that the Duke of Edinburgh’s least favorite child is Prince Charles.

During one major feud between the royal siblings, Prince Philip seemingly confirmed the speculations when he sided with Prince Edward over Prince Charles. Details about the feud were discussed by royal author Penny Junor in the book “The Firm.”

Several years ago, Prince Charles became very upset with Prince Edward after he allowed media company Ardent to follow Prince William while at the University of St. Andrews. Prince Charles previously asked the press to give his eldest son a break.

The heir to the throne was reportedly incandescent toward his younger brother. Prince Charles also called Prince Edward on the phone, and they had a heated argument.

“The story blew up into a major attack on Prince Edward and his competence as a filmmaker, and ran for some days,” Junor said. “Then a further report claimed that Prince Philip, in support of his youngest son, thought William was being ‘overprotected’ by his father and that he had ‘overreacted’ to the Ardent film crew,” she added.

Following the incident, the royal family found out that some of the stories came from Prince Charles’ press secretary, Mark Bolland. As such, Buckingham Palace was not happy. Prince Philip also issued a rare statement saying that the views being attributed to him didn’t have any foundation.

And in the book “William And Harry,” royal author Katie Nicholl also talked about the feud between Prince Charles and Prince Edward. She said that the issue just confirmed Prince Charles’ stand that members of the royal family could not have independent jobs on top of their royal duties.

This wasn’t the first and last time that Prince Philip issued a statement amid ongoing controversy. In 2002, the dad of four made headlines after his private letters to Princess Diana were exposed.
