Princess Diana dreaded one aspect of royal life shortly after she wed Prince Charles. However, the thing that she hated the most was something that Sarah Ferguson thrived in.

In the book “Sarah: HRH The Duchess Of York,” royal biographer Ingrid Seward said that the Princess of Wales disliked the fact that she had to chat with members of the public in an unstructured and informal way during her royal visits. Fergie, on the other hand, didn’t feel flustered during such situations.

The Duchess of York used to work in public relations, and she was always tasked to look after the newcomers at a party. Sarah’s former boss, Neil Durden-Smith, said that the mom of two was so good at it.

“She had an uncanny ability to make even the most awkward person feel at ease,” he said. But even though Fergie had the gift of chatting with the members of the public, she and Princess Diana also shared some insecurities about their royal lives.

In the book “Prince Edward,” Seward said that Princess Diana and Sarah only discovered how difficult royal life could be after they got engaged to Prince Charles and Prince Andrew, respectively. However, Prince Edward’s wife, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, received a very different treatment.

“Sophie was being given a careful and subtle introduction, a fact which did not escape the notice of Diana and Sarah. But would later complain (with more than an edge of resentment in their voice) that they had received no such help as they struggled to get to terms with their new situation,” Seward said.

While Princess Diana and Sarah were still married to their husbands, they also maintained a close relationship with each other. They relied on each other and had each other’s back at all costs.

However, things changed shortly after the Princess of Wales noticed how Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip became more drawn to Prince Andrew’s wife than her. The late royal admitted to feeling jealous of her former best friend.

The two female royals also had a falling out after Princess Diana found out that Sarah wrote about her in her biography. They stopped talking for years and weren’t able to patch things up until Prince Charles’ ex-wife passed away.
