Queen Elizabeth regularly wears diamonds especially when she’s attending formal events such as the State Opening of Parliament. And over time, her staff has learned a wonderful trick on how to make Her Majesty’s jewelry sparkle.

In the book “The Other Side of the Coin,” the monarch’s top dresser, Angela Kelly, said that they use two surprising items to clean the Queen’s diamonds. “A little gin and water come in handy to give the diamonds extra sparkle – just don’t tell the jeweler,” she said.

Kelly also revealed how exactly are the Queen’s tiara’s polished. She said that a drop of washing-up liquid and water makes it possible to get rid of hairspray stains on Her Majesty’s headpiece.

However, the top dresser said that she isn’t the one responsible for cleaning the Queen’s jewelry and tiara. Rather, her jewelers are in charge of the deep cleaning and she simply polishes them.

Meanwhile, the Queen has hundreds of jewelry kept in her peerless jewelry box. Decades ago, she was photographed wearing the Imperial State Crown alongside a diamond necklace during her coronation.

In the early ‘80s, she was photographed wearing a four-strand pearl choker with a diamond pendant that was commissioned for her by the Japanese government. Years later, the 93-year-old monarch lent the choker to Kate Middleton.

The Queen also inherited a beautiful amethyst set that includes a diamond brooch, necklace, and earrings. The Kent Amethysts previously belonged to Queen Victoria’s mother, the Duchess of Kent.

In 1986, the Queen was photographed with another stunning jewelry set that features diamonds and aquamarine earrings. The set was given to her by the People of Brazil for her coronation.

In related news, there are claims suggesting that the Queen only lends her jewelry to the Duchess of Cambridge and not to Prince Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle. When Princess Diana was still alive, she was also photographed with some of the Queen’s jewelry.

“This is a surprising situation that has been going on behind the scenes over the past few months and has caused tension and upset, especially for Harry,” a source told The Sun. “It is at the discretion of the Queen and trusted advisers which items in the Royal Collection she chooses to loan out and to whom,” the source added.
