UPDATE: iPhone 6 Release Date Rumors: Debut Expected Next Summer With Bigger Edge-Edge Screen

Apple watchers were disappointed when one of the many new devices announced yesterday was not the long awaited iPhone 6. At the October 22 event in San Francisco, Apple announced the iPad Air, iPad Mini, Mac Book Pro, and the new operating system for the Mac, Mavericks. Having just released the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c you might think it is too soon to start anticipating the next generation iPhone. Not for Apple, the tech company has been pumping out new phones around the clock and not the Apple no longer dominates the smart phone competition they are looking to step up their game.

Speculation about the iPhone 6 release date has been wildly inaccurate with many suggesting the device would be available by the end of 2013. Since Apple only released the iPhone 5s in September it is likely that the iPhone 6 will not be launched until late 2014. In a conference call, Apple CEO Tim Cook spoke with investors about Apple's latest technology. "Our teams are hard at work on some amazing new hardware, software, and services that we can't wait to introduce this fall and through 2014," Cook said.

It was revealed yesterday that the new technology Cook was talking about was the iPad Air and iPad Mini 2. There is a lot speculation about what features the iPhone 6 will have. One assumption is that the iPhone 6 will feature a larger screen than past models. The current buzz about the iPhone 6 screen says the phone will feature a five inch display. Analyst for Cantor Fitzgerald Brain White is reported to have recently met with an Apple supplier and in an investors note he spoke about the meeting and what investors should expect regarding iPhone 6.

"Our meeting with a tech supply chain vendor highlighted a bigger iPhone is in the works, and our contact expects a launch in the 2Q:14/3Q:14 time frame," White said in the investors note. "Nearly a year ago our research in Asia uncovered early stage work on a larger iPhone and we indicated in our Apple initiation report dated 9/4/13 that a 'larger screen size on the iPhone is possible in 2014 that could approach 5 inches.' Given today's meeting, we are confident that a larger iPhone...will become a reality in 2014."

With the rumor of a 5-inch screen surrounding the iPhone 6 other rumors are saying Apple will improve the battery life of the iPhone 6 in order to accommodate the larger screen. The rumors suggest that Apple is planning on new power management using Gaze Detection Technology. This technology will conserve battery power by closing apps when the user is not looking at his or her phone. For the iPhone 5s Apple has already improved its camera with an 8-megapixel sensor and an upgraded lens from f/2.4 to an f/2.2 model. Rumors suggest the iPhone 6 could have a 12 or 13-meapixel sensor.
